The Fame Bottom Foundation is a private operating foundation (frequently referred to as a family foundation), a distinct type of charitable entity recognized by the Internal Revenue Service. Unlike most private foundations, which primarily make grants to other organizations, a private operating foundation carries out its own programs and initiatives directly.
This structure enables Fame Bottom to stay closely involved in the design, delivery, and results of its work. It combines the independence of a private foundation with the active engagement of a public charity. Each year, the majority of our resources are dedicated to the programs we operate – ensuring that our missions are advanced through direct action, meaningful partnerships, and measurable community impact. We hope to create lasting impact by doing the work ourselves.
Another distinctive feature of a private operating foundation is its self-funding nature. This does not preclude Fame Bottom from raising support from individuals and organizations, but it underscores our long-term commitment to sustainability and accountability in fulfilling our missions.
Through this approach, we sustain the creative and educational work that defines Fame Bottom’s purpose and keep our commitment to community at the center of everything we do.

I founded the Fame Bottom Foundation after having good fortune in the stock market. That success gave me the opportunity -- and the responsibility -- to create something that makes a difference.
"Fame Bottom" exists because of my family. It represents the gratitude for what my grandparents and parents gave me -- personally, philosophically, and through the values they lived every day. Their influence shaped my understanding of fairness, generosity, and purpose.
The Fame Bottom Foundation is my way of giving back. It reflects my belief that when life places you in a position to do good, the meaningful response is to invest in legacies that strengthen others and improve society. Through the Foundation's initiatives, I aim to help make our country wealthier, fairer, and healthier.
